Welcome Back! This week’s haunted places are in Alaska. There were actually so many different ones, so it was hard to choose yet again. I enjoyed researching these though many of these stories are fairly short, but that doesn’t make them any less haunted.
Without further ado let’s get into the haunted places of Alaska:
Eldred Rock Lighthouse
The Eldred Rock Lighthouse is the oldest original lighthouse, it was built after a slew of tragic shipwrecks in that area. The most notorious one was of the Clara Nevada steamship. It had struck a hidden pinnacle of the rock that the lighthouse now stands on, after getting hit the Clara Nevada had an explosion and sank. No one survived the crash. It is said that the souls that were aboard the Clara Nevada still haunt the island and the surrounding waters. People have heard footsteps when no one is there and seeing footsteps appear on the ground even when no one stepped there. If you would like some more information on the lighthouse itself this article has a lot of information about it as well as the story of the mysterious disappearance of some assistant keepers.
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital
As expected, there have been quite a few deaths at the hospital, it is a hospital after all. There was a few notable ones, one was a dog that got shot and killed in the parking lot after a drive by shooting and two murder victims in 2018 passed away there as well. All though we will never know how many people have actually died there as it is still a functioning hospital. It has been said by staff that there are angels that wander the halls, but the entities are usually in the nursery. Crying babies can be heard even when there are no babies to be found. Cold spots have also been reported as well as the rumor that the hospital was built on sacred Native American burial grounds.
Jesse Lee Home for Children
The Jesse Lee Home was a home for many children, mostly natives from the Aleutian Islands and Seward Peninsula. The Jesse Lee Home has a little bit of a complicated history as it moved from Unalaska to Seward due to the fact that Seward had the largest transportation hub at the time, around 1926. Unfortunately there was a huge earthquake in 1964 that heavily damaged the building. I could not find a number on how many died from the earthquake other than there were some deaths. After the earthquake, the home was moved once again and this time to Anchorage and closed the one in Seward. The earthquake wasn’t the only tragedy in the Seward location as tuberculosis and influenza outbreaks were happening while they had been there, so there would have been a few deaths from that as well. People have reported children giggling, things moving, silhouettes, sounds of people jump roping. If you would like a more in depth look into the activity of the home this video goes more into some more informative facts.
Nightmute Highschool
I was kind of surprised to find that there is a highschool that is supposed to be haunted. There is supposedly a girl who roams the hallways of the highschool. She is said to spend time in the school’s bathrooms, kind of like a moaning myrtle situation. The girl will flush toilets and flick the lights on and off. Sometimes you can hear her hum in the hallways. Some say that if you leave some basketballs out in the gym she will try and make a basket. Her name is unfortunately unknown, but there was supposedly a grave found under room 106. I could not find if it had been identified or not.
Badarka Road
This road is located in a town called Chugiak. The story goes that a father and his five year old daughter went out to get some wood to bring back to their cabin. After getting some wood chopped the father put the ax in a tree so that it is out of the way while he collects the chopped wood and no one can fall on the blade. The daughter wanting to help her father, pulled the ax out of the tree which made the ax fall on her head, killing her instantly. The father couldn’t bear to leave his daughter’s body or move. He died of hypothermia while cradling his dead daughter’s body. The locals say that if you travel the road at night you can see the apparition of the man holding his daughter and hear him sobbing.

About the Spook Shack
The Spook Shack is…A blog that I, Jodie Webb, decided to start to learn/teach about the haunted places and cryptids of different places. So far, I am working on the 50 states with five cryptids and haunted places/houses, but I plan on going out of the USA and into other countries with their cryptids/haunted places.
